Talking Houses with Fox Johnston
SRG House

To kick off our second series of Talking Houses videos, architect Conrad Johnston shares his design thinking behind the SRG House, winner of the House in a Heritage Context category in the 2021 Houses Awards.

The 1970s semi in Balmain was originally designed by Stuart Whitelaw and was formerly owned by Sir Roy Grounds and his son Marr, an architect, lecturer and sculptor. Johnston has sensitively updated the SRG House into a sustainable, multigenerational home for his family of five.

The Talking Houses video series reflects the vibrant milieu of Australian residential design and reveals the unique character of each practice. Winners of categories in the 2021 Houses Awards were invited to share the stories, ideas and experience of living in each of their award-winning homes.

Talking Houses is presented by Houses magazine and supported by Living Edge.
